It’d be an understatement to say America loves food. The food industry is one of the most lucrative in the country and the big wigs of fast food chains are raking in the doe, while their foot soldiers run the business essentially. A fast-food worker is regarded to as the lowest median paying job in the U.S., according to the infographic. Getting paid between $6.80 and $7.90 an hour, members of the food service industry are forced to work a little harder for extra cash.

The tip. It’s a word known to rear it’s head around the close of a meal. On average, we tip 17.5%. The infographic also left some pointers for getting a higher tip percentage. Things as simple as a touching the shoulder of the customer and squatting to be at eye level while talking could get you that little extra. What defines a good tip to you? And how does one obtain it? Share your thoughts in a comment. [Via]

This infographic might as well be “how to spot any one of my friends who happen to all be instragram junkies.” Instagram is my favorite iPhone (and now android I suppose) app. It turns any average joe, like myself, into a fake photographer. While instagram talent isn’t something to marvel too hard at, it is a fun, creative way to share your life in pictures.

I know many people who constantly keep their phone at eye level, take far to many pictures of meals, pets and nature, and I know I have definitely ran into a car or a wall while taking a photo. Does this mean we are all photographer wanna be’s? I think not (at least in my case). My pictures are far from professional, as I am not a professional. But peaks inside other people’s lives are always amusing, so if you want a peak follow me @chelseykilzer !

E-Books, are they as popular as we thought they would become? Well yes and no, while they are not quite as popular as printed books at the moment. They are becoming more and more popular with 17% of Americans having read an e-book before the 2011 holidays and 21% after. While not a staggering stat, it does show people like e-books and more importantly there is growth in popularity.

While printed books remain the top choice for readers those reading e-books with e-content reportedly spend more time reading. With e-content a reader is allowed to get more involved in what they’re reading. Through the simple click of a link an e-book will show you a video or take you to a website full information.

As someone who has used an iPad for my textbooks I have to say I am a fan of the digital medium. It is surprisingly easy to take notes and highlight, something I imagine will only get better after time.

It’s that time of year again: today is Mother’s Day. I know that I’ve overlooked this holiday by accident in the past and as a result I’ve had to scramble in order to get gifts for the mothers in my family, which is never fun.

For those last-minute shoppers out there thinking to themselves “what could I possibly get in this little amount of time that I have?” I have today’s infographic from online jeweler Brilliance.com, which outlines the significance and meaning behind the 12 precious gems known as birthstones.

Jewelry might not be the cheapest option and some might feel that it’s a pretty “typical” gift, but knowing the significance behind your mother’s specific gem would make it much more personal and meaningful. Plus, if you’re lucky enough to have a mother whose birthday is in October or December, their piece of jewelry might not hurt your wallet so much (Opal and Turquoise being relatively less expensive than most of the other stones on the list).

For more information on the attributes and lore behind birthstones, refer to the infographic below. Have a happy Mother’s Day! [Via]

Drinking and driving has been one of America’s top issues in recent years. My generation has been told over and over again about the dangers of drinking and driving. We’ve seen videos, brutal live-action plays, heart-wrenching self testimonies and even real life examples. Although, this infection of automobile alcoholism has managed to decrease fatalities by 5% in the last 3 years, the sheer amount of people who still drink and drive is astounding.

My university had a program where students would volunteer to be a ride home for those under the influence on Friday and Saturday nights. It was a free service that was only one phone call away. Unfortunately, the program was cancelled 3 years ago due to budget cuts. Like my institution’s program, the battle against drunk drivers is one steep uphill treck. Alcohol has always been rooted in American tradition, but luckily taxies have too. [<a href="http://massachusettscriminaldefense.net/"target=_blank">MassachusettsCriminalDefense]

I recently graduated college, so I haven’t really thought about stress in a while. I just haven’t been in very stressful situations. The end of senior year, however, can be quite stressful. It’s difficult to get everything together to make sure you graduate. While I consider myself generally anxious, I do things to keep my stress and anxiety levels low. I believe meditation is a great tool to clear the mind and promote healthy thinking. Many people do not realize that you can do non-religious meditation, and are closed-minded towards it.

Sleep is an obvious means to keep stress in check. I try to get 8 hours every night, which is way above average amongst my friends. I know lots of people who think ‘all-nighters’ are a good idea, but honestly there has to be a point where the lack of sleep overtakes the additional study time.

Bear wrestling is illegal in Oklahoma. Did you know that? So is not having a well kept lawn in various parts of Utah. Did you know that? The two aforementioned laws are just a few from a handful of the most outrageous laws from across the globe.

Nine times out of ten, a law is put in place with the general public’s best interest in mind. With that being said, today’s infographic showcases the top laws that make some scratch their heads a little.

Just the story behind the existence of these laws baffle me more than anything. What made masked gatherings banned in New York? Or why does a PC repair man have to have a private investigators license in the state of Texas? We need answers.
