Veggie Cooking Cheat-Sheet [infographic]

Finally! A veggie cooking cheat-sheet!

Like many Americans, I do not eat enough vegetables. According to The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s relatively new food pyramid, (released in 2005) we should be eating 2.5 cups of vegetables a day. I have nothing against veggies–their health benefits are reason enough to head to the produce section when grocery shopping–but, back in the kitchen, I often find myself unsure of how to cook them.

Check out this veggie cheat-sheet to relieve any vegetable related fears. And if the chart doesn’t convince you to eat your vegetables, maybe this easy Indian recipe will! Tastes great on whole wheat crackers!

Gujarati Carrot Salad with Mustard Seeds

Ingredients:

3 medium carrots, peeled and grated
2 tablespoon olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoon black mustard seeds
1 teaspoon white sesame seeds
Unprocessed sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions:

In a bowl, toss the grated carrots with salt and pepper.

Heat the oil in a small skillet over low heat and when hot, add the mustard seeds and sesame seeds. Cover the pot and wait until the mustard seeds pop (they may jump up and burn you, so keep the cover on for a short while).

Pour the contents of the skillet over the carrots and stir to mix well. Serve lukewarm or cold. [Recipe Via] [Infographic Via]

How Not to Brush Your Teeth [infographic]

Whether they are covered in braces, filed to fangs, or are starting to fall out, teeth are very important to our health. Our relationship with our teeth starts at an early age. The discovery of growing teeth by young minds must be amazing. One day you’re a happy toddler, the next you’re screaming in pain because these little white demons are ripping their way through your gums and to the surface for some air. Then we are stuck with these high maintenance food crushers to pamper for the rest of our lives.

Demanding consistent cleaning and flossing, teeth are the first thing we think about in the morning and the last thing we see in the mirror at night. We buy expensive electric brushes, pastes, floss and even bleaching strips for our chompers. We teach our kids to brush them twice a day, or after meals and we give them pointers on how to brush them. But do we even know the correct way to brush our own teeth? At least we aren’t using urine to bleach them anymore.

Fruit for Health [infographic]

Most fruits are packed with many vitamins and fiber necessary for a balanced diet. Instead of spending money on vitamin pills, a yummy way of getting your required amount of vitamins is to eat them straight from the food source!  Living on a clean, raw diet that includes fruit can have it’s perks that include weight loss, increased energy, and better health overall!

Today’s inforgraphic lists the benefits of 20 different fruits for a healthy lifestyle. It is amazing to see the healing properties many of these little fruits contain! However, beware if you are diabetic. While fruit is packed with important vitamins,  it is also packed with sugar that can be harmful to a diabetic’s body. Therefore, eat fruits in moderation and seek an alternative method of receiving the daily required amount of vitamins. [via]

Which Ecommerce Platform Is Right For Me? [Infographic]

May 8, 2013 |  by  |  eCommerce  |  1 Comment

For today’s infographic, we have some info on the world of ecommerce. What is ecommerce you say? Well, essentially it’s the method by which you choose to sell your junk on the internet (aside from ebay and craigslist). Sites like Ebay and Craigslist are ecommerce strategies, but the following platforms will give you the resources to build and manage an online store of your very own. There are many possible platforms for you to choose from, but here Brightpearl compares three of the biggest names. They have their own pros and cons, depending on your tech-savviness or payment preference. Magento seems to be the most customizable due to it being an open-source platform. Bigcommerce and Shopify on the other hand will box you into prebuilt features. As far as the differences in payment for these various platforms is concerned, Bigcommerce requires an all-in cost, while Shopify lets you have a lower starting cost and then pay as you use add-ons later. Also, it should be noted that if you also use ebay, amazon, or another store, you should invest in a central management system so that the various branches of your business may be more manageable.

All in all, despite this infographic’s confusing nature (needs some arrows and a typo/grammar edit) it is quite useful for figuring out how to start your online business off on the right foot.

30 Dr. Seuss Quotes That Can Change Your Life [infographic]

May 7, 2013 |  by  |  Funny, Lifestyle  |  4 Comments

It is harder than hard to choose just one of these quotes, but that is what I am going to do because that is what I have set out to do.

I meant what I said and I said what I meant.

I find myself questioning things I have said to people, wondering whether or not they were childish, self-centered, or worse, untrue. An example that keeps playing out in my mind is, “You’ll never meet anyone like me.” Whatever confidence I had at that time has since been replaced with pure embarrassment. Why would I say that? How eager and conceited I must have sounded! The truth is, they will never meet someone like me because I am who I am, and I am like no one else. Sometimes we need Dr. Seuss to remind us of these things.

I’m a quote aficionado. I eat them for breakfast, for my mid-morning snack, my lunch, dinner, and sometimes back to back. That’s the truth of all truths–ask anyone I know. For a person so hungry for words, you might expect my favorites to lie in the wisdom of Emerson, Austen, or even Twain, but I can gleefully say that no one can top my man, Dr. Seuss. Suess would sling words of wisdom as if he were reading headlines from the Sunday paper. Can you do that? Seuss would say ‘yes.’ Check out this infographic. I mean exactly what I say when I say, you will love it. [via]
