The Universe Top To Bottom: The Scale of Our Solar System [infographic]

I’ve been taking summer school courses in Astronomy this summer and boy has it been an eye-opener. Learning about the composition of stars, planets, and pretty much everything in the known universe has been fascinating to me. It’s hard to imagine and put into perspective just how vast (and mostly empty) our entire universe is, but this infographic at least sheds some light on just how big our solar system is.

From the rocky terrestrial Planets – heated craters of Mercury, hellish Venus, familiar Earth, and the faded glory of Mars – to the Gaseous Jovian Planets – giant Jupiter, beautiful Saturn, sideways Uranus and lonely Neptune – all the way out toward the Dwarf Planets – the club member Pluto all the way out to Eris, our furthest reaching planet orbiting the sun (taking almost 557 Earth years to complete one full orbit!). Our Solar System in itself is quite a journey. Launched almost 35 years ago, the Voyager 1 probe has traveled past our planets and beyond, but not even come close to one light-year away (distance at which light travels in one year) from Earth. Though, with probes like Voyager and it’s subsequent companions, we are now able to scan much more of the universe than ever before. It’ll only a matter of time before we finally find an extraterrestrial planet like our own. [Via]

Who is the Fairest of them All? [infographic]

Snow White and the Huntsman just hit theaters this week and I’ve got to say, I’m pretty excited about it. The fairy tale has always been a personal favorite of mine while growing up. So you could imagine my excitement when Snow White and the Huntsman came out.

In the fairy tale, both Snow White and The Evil Queen are known for their beauty, so I can’t imagine better women to cast then Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as The Evil Queen. Kristen’s porcelain complexion and dark hair are a mirror image of Snow White, and Charlize’s breathtaking beauty give the audience an understanding of just how beautiful The Evil Queen is.

Both characters are stunning, but who truly is the fairest of the all? Today’s infographic lists the characteristics that both Snow White and The Evil Queen have to offer. The list provides insight to help solve the century old question looming over fairy tale land. The Evil Queen’s mirror always sides with Snow White, but who would you say is the fairest of them all? TEDx: Statistics Worth Sharing [infographic]

TED has become notorious across the globe as one of the most innovative conferences of idea distribution. Standing for Technology, Education and Design, TED has opened millions of minds to a different outlook on a number of subjects. With speakers like Malcolm Gladwell, Jamie Oliver and hundreds more – TED has a specific way of cornering the greatest minds on earth. Now, with the TEDx independent conference, TED has been able to spread their brand across hundreds of countries and thousands of cities.

This last February I had the opportunity to help produce TEDxAustin. We had an amazing conference with some of the most intriguing speakers I’ve ever heard. Just recently we’ve got our first TEDxAustin talk posted on TED.com.

Some recent natural disasters like Katrina and the Asian tsunamis left thousands displaced in horrible conditions. Michael McDaniel became obsessed with finding a fix, and he has. The Exo Reaction Housing Solution is an amazing way for governments and relief organizations to quickly and effectively provide temporary housing for those who recently lost their homes. Give the video a watch and hopefully his idea will soon have very real results. [Via]

Time for Tea [infographic]

If you’re in search of new ways to implement a little class and elegance into your daily life, tea might be the answer.

Afternoon tea is often seen as a ladies occasion, so invite the girls over for a little mid-day event. Usually served at a low table, it’s a great setting to enjoy pastries, scones, and conversation amongst friends.

High tea usually takes place between 5 & 7 pm and was viewed as a working class meal. The infographic also shares some things to serve with tea, which include sponge cakes and one of my favorites, Shepard’s Pie. The infographic also shares protocol during tea time, ensuring you from being dismissed and potentially embarrassed. Give the infographic a good read! It’s time for tea! [Via]

Images have gotten better. Image quality has increased all over the internet. Increased image quality and an increase of images per article increases views and aids in searchability. Various new-ish aps and websites aid in the promenance of images. Pinterest boasts inspiring fashion, food and decor photos, earning swoons across America. Facebook allows users to upload photos of their friends family and fun times. Instagram, which we all know i love, gives even the most novice of photographers an opportnity to publish their own photos.

Images are beautiful and allow inspiration. Horray for the image revolution! [Via]
