Allergy sufferers, your home may be less of a refuge than you would like. Even bed, that sanctum of solace, could be making your allergies worse. According to today’s infographic, there are approximately 1,000 to 10,000 dust mites in the average bed. (Cue Phantom of the Opera Overture.)

Now that we are all aware of the small vermin taking up residence in our residence, aggravating our allergies, what are our options? Regularly washing bedding and covering mattresses with plastic are two tactics. Unfortunately, dust mites are not the only culprits. Dust (that thick film over your fan blades), mold, dead roaches, pollen, and pet dander all top the hit-list of major household allergy contributors. Take a look at the infographic below for harsh reality and some great allergy-prevention tips. [Via]

The internet is a funny place, we all rely on it to make an online presence. Most of us, like me, are complete internet novices, just playing around on facebook and twitter with no real sense of how it all works. The most complicated thing I can do on the internet is have a password sent to my email. And by a password I mean my own password that I’ve invariably forgotten.

On the other hand, there are definitely some computer/internet geniuses out there and like most geniuses they are usually either good or evil. This infographic from Veracode discusses when computer genuises use their skills for bad.

Although it can sometimes be funny when a celebrity gets their account hacked, other times it can be pretty dangerous. All and all, keep a good password and keep your internet identity safe! [Via]

Apple in China [infographic]

As a fan of both Apple and China I found today’s infographic to be quite entertaining. China is a country with a blossoming economy causing Americans to quake in their boots in fear of a takeover. Apple is an innovative prospering money making machine. The two of them together seem like the perfect couple. However that does not seem to be the case.

According to today’s infographic Apple in China not everything is so peachy between the two. Can’t really blame China for being a little upset at Apple considering it has poisoned 137 employees working at a firm creating Apple products. Apple always sells itself as the green company, but 27 of their supplier supposedly have severe pollution problems. Although thus far it only seems like Apple is hurting China, it has actually been a pretty good relationship.

Apple gets cheap labor at about $10 a day and China sees revenue of $8.8 billion or about a 330% revenue growth. One of the more interesting things in today’s infographic are the reported fake Apple stores. Apparently they sell Apple products and the employees even where Apple attire. There have been a reported 24 fake stores found in China. [via]

How to Swipe Your Cell Phone to Pay for Lunch [infographic]

I think mobile payments are the currency of the future. Why have a phone, wallet and keys when you can just have one device that does it all? Google Wallet just launched and although I have posted a graphic before on this topic, now more players are in the game.

One of the surprising types of mobile payment systems are the Closed Loop Mobile Payments. I’d think more restaurant chains would have already hopped on this. No more long lines at lunch. You enter the door and get on the app and order your food. They send your order number to your phone and you wait for it to be called out. No cashier or waiter, just efficiency. [Via]

The Hubble Telescope [infographic]

So in my energy technology and policy class, we are basically learning about the end of life as we know it. Oil is or is soon to be peaking, and right now alternative energy is not nearly strong enough to carry our current lifestyle. What happens when only 1% of the U.S. can afford air travel? Cars certainly won’t be an item in every household. So what’s the solution?

We either cut the population by a significant amount, or we find some secret habitable planet with resources. So maybe we should start investing in the space telescope? It’s that or take an IQ test to determine if you can keep living… So maybe some other technology will save us, but still it would be cool to travel into space and live on a new planet.

Well that’s it for my lecture, please enjoy today’s infographic. Hopefully you can understand what is happening…it took me a few glances to understand the entire telescope. [Via]
