Potatoes are the most widely consumed vegetable in the world. That’s a pretty big deal for a tuber that grows underground and is often neglected as an ingredient. In fact, potatoes come in more varieties than any other known food! But when it comes to cooking them, there’s only one way to do it: bake them—preferably in your oven. There are so many ways to prepare these delicious tubers that I had to narrow down my favorites into five categories: mashed potatoes (that can be served hot or cold), baked potato skin snacks (also called O’Brien potatoes), hash browns (which can be used as a side dish or even on top of burgers or sandwiches), French fries (best served hot off the stovetop), and potato salad (which is best eaten right away).
