Nothing quite says summertime like spending the days and nights outdoors. The days last longer and everyone seems to be happier. While being out in nature is good for the body and mind, there are definitely a few downsides. Four of those downsides being stings, bites, scratches, and sunburns.
You can take precautions to lessen your chances of encountering these unfortunate events, but if you’re outside enough, you’re going to encounter something like this. Sure, when you get stung by a bee you can rush out to your nearest pharmacy and buy some medicine to put on it. The thing about those over-the-counter creams, ointments, and lotions though, is that you don’t really know what is in them. Oftentimes there are chemicals in them that can cause more harm than good.
The next best thing is to buy a product that is guaranteed to be free of anything you don’t want to put on your skin. However, then you run into the issue of price as many times these are way more expensive than their cheap counterpart.
Luckily, if you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg for remedies for these types of wounds, you’re in luck. There are plenty of DIY recipes you can make from ingredients you already have. Did you get a mosquito bite? Try rubbing some basil from your kitchen on the affected area, as it helps to relieve the itch. If you get a sunburn, try putting some aloe or diluted apple cider vinegar on the area, since these can help reduce the pain. These DIY recipes will help you in a pinch, but be sure to look out for signs of an allergic reaction and call 911 if you notice any reaction symptoms.
