My husband and I have been binge-watching The Great British Bake Off on Netflix. If you haven’t seen the show, it’ll leave you equally hungry and ambitious.
But just how hard is it to make a pastry from scratch? This infographic helps us figure it out.
First comes the pastry cream. You’ll need vanilla bean, milk, pistachio paste, butter, sugar, flour, egg yolk, gelatin, and pastry cream powder. Whew––this definitely might require a trip to the grocery store.
Next up is the buttercream, which thankfully uses a lot of the same ingredients as the pistachio cream. Once you’ve got that down, it’s time to make a shortbread crust for your pastry delicacy. Again, you’ll have most of these ingredients thanks to the pastry cream, but you’ll also need salt and powdered sugar.
The final touch here is the raspberry cremeux. This creamy raspberry concoction requires gelatin, along with butter, sugar and egg yolk. Some other important elements: Red food coloring and raspberry puree.
Once you’ve got that, all that’s left is fresh raspberries. Congrats––you’ve made a delicious dessert! As you saw, this ingredient list is pretty in-depth. If you’re unsure whether you have everything you need, it’s okay. Check out our list of cooking and baking substitutions here.
