When we think of birds, typically we think of the smaller birds we see flying around our residences and whatnot.
However, today’s infographic will show you that this is just skimming the surface when it comes to our winged counterparts. While certainly there are plenty of smaller birds that we see flying around, such as the Tree Swallow (Tachycineta Bicolor), on the other side of the spectrum we see birds like the Southern Cassowary (Casuarius Casuarius) reaching upwards of 5 feet and 99 pounds! The vast differences in size between these creatures is truly astonishing.
The Southern Cassowary has nothing on the Common Ostrich (Struthio Camelus), however, as the Common Ostrich can reach 7 feet and 230 pounds! The Common Ostrich, typically found in Africa, takes the crown for the largest current bird species with these ridiculous statistics. On the flip side, the Bee Hummingbird (Mellisuga Helenae) takes the crown for the smallest bird, clocking in at 2.4 inches and .092 ounces. In between these two extremes are plenty of other birds that you and I both know, ranging from the California Condor to the King Penguin.
The variety in the sizes of these birds is truly staggering, so be sure to read through the rest of today’s infographic.
