By | source:Here Jul 27th, 2017

With summer in full swing, it’s mostly you’ve planned a few barbecues. If you’re anything like most Americans, you’ll likely have hot dogs at your shindig.

A staggering seven billion hot dogs are consumed by Americans from Memorial Day to Labor Day. That equates to 818 hot dogs per second. During the rest of the year, Americans eat 13 billion hot dogs.

Los Angeles and New York City lead the country for hot dog consumption. In New York City, hot dog vendors pay $289,500 a year just to park their carts outside Central Park, so you can imagine just how much money they’re making in profit.

In L.A., 34 million pounds of hot dogs are eaten every year.

Even if you aren’t in Los Angeles or NYC, your city may have made the list for hot dog consumption. The other eight cities on the list include:

  • Phoenix
  • Philadelphia
  • Boston
  • Atlanta
  • Detroit
  • Chicago
  • Washington, D.C.
  • Tampa

As you’re planning your next barbecue, you may not want to think about the nutritional value of what you’re eating. But  just how many calories are consumed at the average potluck? Find out here.
