In this day and age of constant connection, even potential employers are paying attention to your social media channels.
Unfortunately, not everyone realizes how something posted online can affect them in the long run. And for those of you who are currently looking for jobs, the last thing you need is social media ruining your chances.
According to the infographic, the majority of employers recruit for new hires through social media. The most common way is through LinkedIn, a site many consider to be your digital resume. Because first impressions are so important – especially online – it’s a good idea to make sure everything you post portrays you in a positive light.
Which brings us to photos. Princeton researchers discovered that people make judgements about you based on your photo in 1/10 of a second. That’s how quickly someone could disqualify you for a job. So what can you do to prevent recruiters from dismissing you too quickly?
For starters, you might want to hire a professional photographer. (Or make friends with someone who takes nice pictures for fun.) Those selfies you like to post on Instagram are not going to cut it for a LinkedIn profile.
You also might want to think about how you dress in your photos. Basically, if you want the job, you need to look the part.
