The title of “world’s tallest building” is one goal many architects wish to meet one day. Today’s infographic focuses on those buildings that were able to meet this goal.
While the title may make it seem like this infographic is only discussing the current tallest building in the world (Burj Khalifa) and how it has developed over time, today’s infographic actually focuses on the titleholder of “world’s tallest building” over the years. Over time, the title has bounced from building to building, and currently belongs to the Burj Khalifa which stands at 830 meters.
Created by Reddit user /u/colorsin, this infographic includes the largest freestanding structure in the world from 2500 B.C. with the Great Pyramid of Giza and then moves on through history to track new construction marvels. This infographic includes the heights, names, locations, and time as the record holder for each of the record-breaking buildings.
It’s interesting to note that as time goes on, the record is broken at a quicker and quicker pace. Considering that the Great Pyramid of Giza held the record for 3871 years, it’s quite mind-blowing to see much smaller time increments between each building taking the crown from one another. At this point, we are bound to see the Burj Khalifa’s record being broken at some point in the near future, as it has been 13 years since its construction.
