Just last week I witnessed an intoxicated driver speed through a red light crashing into another vehicle. Four of those individuals in the wreck were wearing seat belts and walked away nearly unscathed. Three passengers not wearing seat belts we’re knocked unconscious and brought to the hospital in ambulances.
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has released data which confirms that in 2011 there were over 300,000 motor vehicle accidents reported, a number that has not changed dramatically over the last three years. Although significant safety advances have been made in the automobile manufacturing industry, over 42% of these accidents have resulted in death, catastrophic injuries, and injuries that will have life-long consequences.
When you compare the severity of injuries from different types of vehicle wrecks, it becomes evident the dramatic impact of (i) type of vehicle, (ii) speed at time of collision, (iii) Availability and use of safety equipment. Please take all safety precautions when driving your motor vehicle.
