With the superhero movie genre taking over the global market, a good indicator of a superhero’s popularity is their box office earnings.
Today’s infographic gives us a glimpse at perhaps the most popular superheroes of all time–at least by Hollywood’s standards. This infographic compiles how much each of the top 30 most popular heroes has brought in at the box office.
For each hero, box office numbers have been included from every film they’ve been in, whether they’re the star of the film or a simple cameo. One movie that pumps up the box office numbers for everyone involved is Avengers: Endgame, released in 2019. This movie is the highest-grossing superhero movie ever, both by numbers adjusted for inflation and unadjusted numbers. This movie also contains perhaps one the largest ensemble cast in any superhero movie, compiling dozens upon dozens of characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As for the actual rankings in this infographic, it turns out that the most popular superhero, at least by Hollywood’s standards, is Iron Man. This comes as no surprise, as Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., kickstarted the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe with the first Iron Man movie in 2008. From then until Endgame, Stark was perhaps the most central character to the entire franchise. Trailing Iron Man are various colleagues of his, from Spider-Man to Thor.
Hopefully today’s infographic was able to shed some light on where your favorite hero stands in terms of box office earnings.
